MANA LOMI™ WORKSHOPS

Our level 1 workshop is offered throughout the year in many locations within the U.S. and outside the U.S. We currently have eleven highly trained Mana Lomi™ instructors that are approved by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) for continuing education hours, the Hawaiian Healing Academy and the Hawaiian Healing Association. See Lomi Instructors in main menu for a list of instructors near in your area and their links.

Level 1, 2 & 3 workshops are usually three days long that begin at 8 a.m. and finishes at 6 p.m. each day. These workshops qualify each participant with 27 CE hours under NCBTMB. Because of the short time frame format, our level 1 workshop allows more people to participate (especially groups or organizations, spas & resorts) where they couldn't otherwise in our longer two-week retreat format.

Our workshops give potential Mana Lomi™ teachers (Alaka'i) an opportunity to assist certified instructors, which is a prerequisite in our on-going ‘teacher training program.’ Our team of certified instructors are available to provide level one training throughout the world. If you have a group of people interested in our workshops or school please contact our main office at (541) 488-5879 or email us for more information. In the U.S. we require a minimum of 10 students at a cost of $485 each for early registration and $535 each for late registratioin before we can send out one of our qualified instructors and we also require at least 6 months notice. Outside the U.S. we require a minimum of 16 students at a cost dependent on the country that is interested.

Level 1
Mana Lomi™ is based on Hawaiian concepts of working with the body, mind and spirit. It is hands on healing that is deep and powerful, yet gentle, giving immediate and long-term results. Mana Lomi™ symbolically means to communicate energetically deep within the bones of the individual thus the soul of the person.

Although this workshop focuses primarily on hands-on techniques it will include topics such as clinical procedures of lomi, hooponopono (alignment of living), the history and timeline of Mana Lomi™, a simple meditation technique & Hawaiian healing chants.

Level 2
This workshop covers advanced techniques that involve the use of hot towels and three specific protocols that will allow the practitioner to handle most physical problems that may be encountered. Included will be discussions on ho’oponopono and other related Hawaiian spiritual philosophies. Also, the scientific approach with Mana Lomi™ (i.e., the relationship between muscle spindle fibers, pain receptors & GTO receptors) from an ancient Hawaiian perspective will be briefly covered.

Other topics included are low back pain, neck and shoulder discomfort, golf & tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, pain in the pelvic region, sprained ankles, homework for clients, ‘Ohana (family) concepts and chair lomi.

Lomi’ili’ili (Hawaiian Hot Stone Therapy)
This intensive training invites you to experience the traditional and ancient Hawaiian art form of hot stone therapy that is specific to the individual’s needs. Each student will learn how to collect stones using proper protocols, how to heat the stones and control the temperature, and how to clean the stones.

Lomi‘ili’ili, which literally means “flat stones in motion,” have been used in Hawaii for hundreds of years to treat the many levels of healing necessary to help restore balance in the mind-body-soul as shared by Maka'ala's "Na Kupuna (Elders) and Na Kumu (Teachers).

Each student will learn the three basic formats using hot stones. This training is more than just laying of stones onto the patient. It is specific to the individual’s needs and it focuses on transitions!

Level 3
This program is only offered once per year to those that have taken level 1 and 2 with a qualified lomi instructor under HHA. This is a four-day program and will require some knowledge on boney landmarks such as the SI joints, ASIS and more.

You will learn how to use the bones and joints to affect the plasticity of soft tissues to further enhance the desired outcome of various physical maladies. Bones are used only as levers to release hard-to-access deep layer muscles to increase therapeutic efficiency and provide patients with long-term pain relief. Massage therapists can now safely address all soft tissues, including ligaments, discs, fascia, joint capsules and nerve dura responsible for much of the pain believed to be solely from muscles.

The following are an example of some of the bone encoding you will learn:

  • Spinal vertebrae (includes coccyx & sacrum)—genetic history, ancestral lineage.
  • Pelvic (ilium, ischium & pubis)—power, drive and achievement in your life.
  • L5—relation to place
  • L4—attitudes towards others
  • L3—attitude, feeling toward children & parenting.

Dr. Maka’ala Yates and HHA is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education provider.
